Heroes Lore: Wind of Soltia (HLWS) from Hands-On Mobile is the first part of the Heroes Lore saga. Heroes Lore is a big hit in the South Korea, Koreans can play also the next parts of the game - Heroes Lore: Knight of the Frozen Sea and Heroes Lore Zero. The first part: HLWS is now attacking also the European mobile game charts.
HLWS is a classical RPG game, very similar to European No.1 RPG game Might and Magic II. from French developer Gameloft. The game has top-down view; you see your character and the whole world from above. The graphics is nice, but it is not the best in the genre. It could be more detailed. For example, the graphics in Might and Magic II. is better. HLWS has a big advantage in the diversity of the surroundings. You will travel through various cities, fight with creatures in different types of country – in forests, deserts, snowy country etc. It has not sense to name all the details of the game such as number of cities, quests, enemies, weapons and potions. I will summarize the game only with one word: it is huge. Very HUGE!
Word “huge” is the main characteristic of the game. I will therefore focus my review on the feelings from the game and not on the naming of all details of the game.
The game has good graphics but the sounds of the game are even better. I recognized one big difference between PC games and mobile java games in the most of the previous mobile games which I played. There was either the melody or the game sounds in the mobile games, never both of them. This game is an exception. You will hear various melodies during the game (they are typical fantasy themes) and you will hear also the sounds like slashing of the sword simultaneously. The sound of HLWS has very high quality. It is unambiguously one of the best sounds which I heard in the java games.
Story of the game is also vast; you can play as a Ronin, a boy who wants to be a guard knight, at the beginning. After completing Ronin's story you can play for other 2 characters. There are long dialogues in the game, you will encounter many characters, and each will tell you new information.
This game is made for the real fans of the RPG genre. The Koreans are great fans of role playing games and I suppose that this game is developed on their order. The main problem of Might and Magic II. was in the limited opportunity of the characters' development. You reached the highest level of you character relatively soon in the game. It was not possible to improve your character later in the game. It is not the problem of HLWS; your character will improve gradually. Your character has many characteristics – level, experience, health points, stamina points, defense, attack, power, agility and will. You can have a lot of items in your inventory and you can bear one weapon, one armor, one helmet and a pair of shoes (Aramor – one of the characters, can bear also a shield). You will choose also 2 guardians before starting the game. These guardians will provide you special abilities (spells). You can gain also other guardians during the game. You can buy various weapons, items and potions in the cities. There is also the possibility to improve your weapons and make special potions in the city. You will collect different items during the game and also formulas how to combine them.
The opportunities of the game are endless. It is hard to tell what the playing time of HLWS is. I played it for approximately 6 hours and my progress was 34% and character level also 34. It is no problem to beat the enemies at the beginning of the game. But later they will get tougher. If you kill the enemy, he will appear again in the same place within approximately 10 seconds. Often there is only one way how to make progress in the game: run as quickly as you can and avoid enemies.
You will encounter also the bosses. It is real hardcore to beat them. Sometimes it seems that it is impossible to finish them, but don't give up, it is possible. You have to find out how to do it. There always exists a certain way. You will have to try using various guardians’ abilities. I can imagine that many players will give up after the problem with the beating of the first boss. It is one of the disadvantages of the game, the game is very difficult. You can't set the difficulty level, only the game speed. The default level is very hard. It will probably discourage many players. But this game is not for everybody. It is developed for the RPG lovers, for players who revel in refining its hero. These players will cry with the emotion and will feel like in heaven. We must say that in South Korea (this game is very successful there) is majority of the players RPG lovers. In Europe is the situation quit different. RPG games are popular but not as much like in Asia. Therefore is the success of this game disputable. The game has very important feature: you can save the game anytime, except of the boss room.
I have played many RPG games on my mobile phone (the best of them were: Fantasy Warrior 2: Good, Black Citadel II., Anito: Call of the Land, Might and Magic, Migh and Magic II. , The Fourth Seal). There was not a problem to finish these games within couple of hours. HRWS is a unique game. I estimate the playing time of the game from 10 till 15 hours depending on your adroitness and how honestly you will fulfill all the quests. The game has perfect graphics and excellent sounds. The interesting story of the game will motivate you to progress further in the game and the gameplay is unlimited, you have many opportunities how to improve your hero. The main characteristic of the game is its extensiveness. And also high difficulty. It will be the best game in the universe for the RPG fans. Other players should try it too, but they will by shocked by its complexity, difficulty and by its rich opportunities. If you play the mobile games only for couple of minutes per day, this is not a game for you. You should devote this game approximately the same time as to new PC games. HRWS is not ordinary game, it will catch you and will be a part of your life.
